"Oh, I am for sure going to get my miles in when I visit my family for sure," haha...like that really ever happens!
Ryan and I went to College Station this weekend to visit my family and to celebrate my cousin's daughter's first birthday. Of course I made sure to pack everything I would need for my normal Saturday run and mapped out the perfect place to execute it.
Well, well, well...what do you honestly think happened? I woke up bright and early on Saturday morning with my TNT game face on, headed out to the course in my hometown and dominated each mile, one by one! Yeah, if only!
We didn't even head out to College Station until around 10am on Saturday morning thanks to our lack of sleep and of course I just loooove running behind from time to time.
The drive home was pretty comedic. It was pouring to the point that I couldn't really tell which lane on the highway I was trying to stay in...so I'm sure you could imagine how slow I was driving. Also, instead of the radio, I learned a lot of small history lessons from Ryan as he was trying to prepare for an important history exam. And last but not least, we made a 3 hour drive a 5 hour drive thanks to our dangerous appetites. We stopped a couple of times for some yummy food on the way home....not just small snacks, good sized meals/snacks.....
....so after all this yummy food in our stomachs, we finally make it to my mom's house. YAY!
Well, for those of you who don't know my mom, or even my family in general, they are the most welcoming, loving, and hospitable people I know. "Here, let me get you this; here, I made you a plate; here, you can have this room to rest; wait, did you get enough to eat..have more; here, i got you an extra blanket....and so on. (but they really like to make sure no one is left hungy)...Ryan and I were basically treated like royalty with delicious home-cooked meals for every meal, and waited on hand and foot.
We probably should have run off some of the fatty-foods we consumed on the drive home, but eh...we fell into a trap on the relaxing recliner. The TV took all of our focus and we did absolutely nothing during our visit....just napping and eating, and more eating, and more eating!!
So..SUNDAY!! Perfect opportunity to get my miles in before going over to Elizabeth's 1st Birthday Celebration....NOPE! Didn't happen. Instead, we just pigged out, enjoyed the party, went back to my mom's, napped, and drove back home.
Could you guess what happened on the drive home?! YOU GOT IT! Fried Okra and Czech Stop! We have to stop! "Let's Eat!!!!!" Oh it was great stuff....
....I'm sure my body is not going to enjoy training next week as it is trying to digest and cope with all the junk I put into it. Guess I'll just have to deal with it...yikes.

Bambi, Snakes, and Toes! OH MY!
First of all...GO TEAM!
Second of all...OH MY!
This weekend we jumped up to 10 miles! YESSS!!! oooh, but wait! - Not for Miss Kristi! :/ What a bummer.
The beginning of my run went very well...my coach ran the first mile with me which was very motivating - I'm usually out there alone because I run too fast for some and about 2 minutes/mile too slow for the handful in front of me. So I'm always trying to find ways to keep myself motivated. Usually I just keep saying to myself, "The faster I run, the faster I'll be done, and the faster I can take a nap." Or my mind will start to wonder off in "lala land" thinking about who knows what! The good thing is, the place we train beats running on a treadmill inside a boring gym by a lot!!!
For those of you who don't know where we train, we train out at Grapevine Lake which has a pretty nice trail surrounded by NATURE! During the first half of my run, I looked to my left, and to my surprise...a DEER was just standing around chomping on something. I knew there were wild animals out there, but a deer? Really?!...but so many people are out there all the time!! Maybe it wanted to cheer us on...haha
Probably around mile four, I thought I saw just another twig on the trail....uh....guess again!!! IT WAS A SNAKE! AHHHH!!! SO SO SO SO SOOOO glad I didn't step on it - yeah it was small, but a snake is a snake...not my favorite creature out there! But the good thing about this little fella....mr snake made me run faster - probably for about the next mile! WOO!
So I finally made it up to one of our coolers and met up with some other TNT participants. At this point my body was not doing too great - either I still had a cold or had some pretty nasty allergies. Breathing was becoming a challenge....so of course I kept wanting to walk every 50 steps or so. :/ I decided to finish the rest of the course with two new TNT friends who were on a walk/jog regimen. YES! I couldn't do anything but thank God for bringing me to them during this training session. Getting to know both of them while tackling our mileage was a great distraction from the back of my brain saying to just quit due to the lack of good respiration.
BUT....unfortunately, my foot decided it needed some attention. I had no idea what happened, but my left foot felt bruised. Every time the ball of my foot hit the ground, it wasn't a pleasant feeling. NO NO NO! Of course at this time our coach just happens to be in the area to help us finish....and started worrying about my foot. I have a bad habit of ignoring pain. Growing up in the cheer and dance world, sucking it up and forgetting about pain was drilled into our brains. So here I am trying to answer my coaches questions - mainly about when the pain began and when it started elevating....well I had no idea...lol. He wasn't too happy with my answers.
While trying to figure out what the heck I did to my foot, we both decided that I stop at eight miles instead of continuing to 10. What a disappointment..but I'm pretty sure it was the best thing to do. Later that night at work I was limping around again - our regulars must think I'm just beating up my poor body. (that, or I just don't know how to take care of myself)
Anyway, I think figured out what happened to my foot: back in high school I hurt my big toe and it never healed properly...and when I say hurt, I mean it turned black, blue, purple, and green. Ever since then, I have to pop it in a funny way, and it sure has made it a lot more difficult to stay in releve while doing pirouettes (on my tippy toes whiles doing a turn on one foot). Since it didn't heal properly, I think the constant pounding on it was irritating it....great....silly toe!!
hm...boy oh boy...and the crazy thing is- my problems are NOTHING compared to those out there who are batteling leukemia, lymphoma or any other type of blood disease! Let's get some donations people! My problems are easy to fix, theirs....not so much.

8 down; 97% to go
Last weekend was the eight mile mark! UH OH!! Talk about a hard run for Miss Kristi!!! To unfortunate situations, I had missed the previous two weeks of group trainings which both consisted of a nice and friendly six mile run.
Of course life happens causing you to miss things here and there, but boy oh boy! An eight mile run sure was tough after being a huge slacker at training...eeeeeeek. Not only was I still getting over a cold, but the weather sure didn't help any! Humid, humid, humid...oh did I mention?-Humid?!
Sooo...I finally completed my eight miles and felt just dandy...until of course I bent over to touch my toes. As soon as I stood up, I got a little dizzy! OOOPS! YaY for TNT providing snacks.....apparently I was low on protein and potassium! After downing a few yummy treats, I hopped in the car so I can head home for a nice nap before work.
Getting out of bed was the most difficult thing I have had to do in a long time. My entire body felt like someone had beat it with a stick..haha. All throughout the night at work, I was literally walking around like an 89-yr-old who was desperately in need of a hip replacement...and wait a minute...this was only after eight miles...ooh geeez...never again am I getting sick or too busy to train!
At least we are up to eight miles...ten miles next week! YES!
BUT, the sad news is...I am doing a horrible job at fundraising! I only have 3% in my account so far and I'm really nervous that I'm not going to make it. :/ Hopefully I can hop on it and make this happen!

Wait, What?!
So...many of you know just how random I am as I bounce from activity to activity...but never have I participated in something as huge as this! As a new participant of Team In Training, my goal is to raise $3600 in order to help fight leukemia and other blood diseases out there! But wait...what is Team In Training?? It is a sports endurance program...and my sport is a full marathon! Yup!!! That's right...you read correctly!
I'll be running a full marathon in January over in Orlando, FL at Walt Disney World!!!! Wohooo! Creating a blog for you all to follow as we get through our training sounded like a great idea!
So far we have had our kickoff party, fundraising meetings, a shoe clinic, two training sessions, and an honored heroes breakfast. Below are some photos from a few of our events!
